Starting young in Australia
Demi Bennett started training in Adelaide as a teenager and wrestled on the Australian independent scene. WWE signed her after the 2017 Mae Young Classic tournament, and she became Rhea Ripley, a powerful wrestler who could match bigger opponents.
NXT UK and NXT
In 2018 she won a tournament to become the first NXT UK Women's Champion. She then moved to NXT in the US with a darker look and attitude, beat Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women's Championship in December 2019, and had a WrestleMania 36 match with Charlotte Flair.
Main roster success
Ripley joined the Judgment Day group in 2022 and became one of the most popular wrestlers in the company with the nickname Mami. At the 2023 Royal Rumble she entered first and won the whole match, a rare feat, then beat Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39 for the SmackDown Women's Championship. That title became the Women's World Championship, which she held until an injury forced her to give it up in April 2024.
She came back later that year and has continued as one of WWE's top women. Check WWE's official site for her current titles, because championships change often.
Style and influence
Her matches mix power moves like the Riptide with fast strikes and a confident character. Ripley is part of a wave of Australian talent in WWE, and she often talks about wanting to bring a big WWE event home to Australia.
Ripley's look, with dark make-up, studded gear and a punk attitude, helped her stand out in a crowded roster, but her popularity also comes from her in-ring power and her comic timing in backstage segments. She is a good example of how modern WWE builds stars across many platforms, from weekly television to social media clips. Her rivalries with Charlotte Flair, Liv Morgan and Iyo Sky are some of the most watched women's stories of recent years. For young Australian wrestlers, her success has made a career in the big American companies feel far more reachable than it once did.
